“A few years ago, I had huge venues filled with thousands of people. Then came the war, then the cancellation in Belarus, my mother’s arrest, the urgent gathering of documents for a green card, followed by the cancellation, a year of depression, a loss of meaning, and almost “leaving music forever.”
One day, I’ll muster up the courage to tell you how this dark year of my life went. Maybe it’ll be useful to someone else who’s also experiencing loss. But when I emerge on the other side of this black swamp, I can confidently say that, ultimately, THERE IS LIFE. And any grief is fine, as long as you have something to live for. I have: my family, you, and music.
So, I’m starting a new chapter in my life. With this tour. With this inner victory, unnoticed by others. For the first time in all this time, I’ve truly found the strength to “return to music” anew, little by little. And to write new songs, and even sometimes record them, not just write them (heh-heh, stay tuned for more). And even agree to tour with the coolest European orgs that carry Monetochka, Nervy, and many other good people and wonderful musicians.
And here I am again, on my tiny bus tours, like 10 years ago. As if all this great success never happened, and I’m back where I think I belong.
I’m terrified of going on this tour. But I will.
And I’ll start with concerts at my new home spot: Los Angeles and New York. Then we’ll head to Europe.
Come hear me, pack. I love you. And thank you for patiently waiting through this difficult period with me, and not rushing me or shaking me. It’s so valuable.
See you later (c) Rita Dakota
